It may be a blind taste test, but we’d like to think the pans have something to do with it. Six of the top 20 named in the 50 Top Pizza Organization’s list are LloydPans customers, representing a wide array of pizza styles and regions across the United States. It comes as no surprise that New York City’s restaurants were the most frequented awardees, but San Francisco’s Tony’s Pizza Napoletana, a LloydPans customer, was hot on the heels as No. 2.
Tony Gemignani, owner of Tony’s Pizza Napoletana, is a 13-time World Pizza Champion. Housed in San Francisco’s Little Italy, the restaurant specializes in pizza margherita and the Cal Italia, among others. All of Pizza Napoletana’s ingredients are imported from Napoli, Italy.

Top 50 Organization inspectors had the “difficult” task of traveling throughout the U.S. for a year, examining pizzarias under the guise of anonymity. Criteria for assessment included the quality of the dough and toppings. Service and wine and beverage lists also were taken into consideration. The top 15 positions in the U.S. will be entered into the 100 best pizzerias in the world competition, which will be announced at the Palazzo Reale in Naples, Italy, on Sept. 7.
Congratulations and good luck to the LloydPans faithful on the next phase of the award tour!
