It’s been a busy start to 2018, and even though we’re entering March, interesting trend stories are still appearing in leading publications and blogs. We cover the most relevant below, as well as a take a peek at the new Starbucks concept in our collection of foodservice news stories from around the web.

What will make your restaurant successful in 2018?

According to this article from Total Food Service: sensors, vegans, synced apps, Filipino cuisine and a return to basics. We’re following closely the growth of vegan-friendly restaurants, including pizzerias. It will be interesting to follow the growth of vegan cheese and its use in pizza.

And the winner is….Oscar recipes!

The Oscars are Sunday, so it’s not too late to put some Academy Award-themed fare on your menu. Our favorite from this Foodservice Director list had to be the Millionaire’s Potatoes. Multiple cheeses, butter and truffle paste for the win!

Health food does sell, and here are the trends to prove it

We love to indulge like everyone else. However, consuming only caloric-laden food isn’t ideal for a healthy lifestyle. Fortunately, restaurants are mastering healthy eating and it’s now easy to find a great-tasting healthy meal whether you’re out for fine dining or fast food. Total Food Service checks in with Eight Healthy Food and Beverage Trends for 2018.

Starbucks Reserve opens its doors

We’ll be honest, we’re loving the pictures and concepts behind Starbucks latest concept. Featuring upscale coffee offerings, food, baked goods and a mixology bar, the Reserve store debuted in Seattle at the company’s headquarters and is expected to expand soon.

What do these three ingredients have in common?

Fried Bologna, urfa and lotus root are three menu trends Foodservice Director pegged as the next big things. We’ve had fried bologna before, and loved every bit of it. We’re now on the lookout for urfa and lotus root dishes.
